Thursday 21 October

Early hours - woken up again by loud hooting. This time it was Pappa's turn to have his say. I'm starting to get dark rings forming under my eyes thanks to the lack of sleep, and it's not even headache time when the owls start flying and crash-landing. Grr

More respectable time - just when I fell asleep, my alarm woke me up. I had a look at the family and they are all peacful and where they should be. Pot Plant Owl appears particularly laid-back. I think she's happy that Teeny is home, even if she doesn't understand what happened. That's the great thing with Nature - it can just accept that things are the way they are.

Will report back a little later on - DON'T FORGET TO GET YOUR NOMINATED NAMES IN.
By the way, does anyone know who came up with 'Teeny'? I forget who wrote about 'Teeny' first so I'd appreciate help. Teeny may not be the winning name for our little chick, but it is certainly a special mention that deserves much thanks.

Here is the link to see Teeny's return to the nest. THANK YOU FLEUR!

  3. The family are looking really well and contented and the baby had a good meal yesterday evening. I have just looked at the video and I loved how they watched you putting the baby back into the pot and not one of them were frightened lol

  4. One of the bloggers on the Loch of the Lowes Osprey Diary (Scottish Wildlife Trust) has named the largest owlet "Owlzilla." We are urging her to enter that name!!! Don't anybody else do it, now, it's her invention but I think it's perfect! Myself, I have been referring to them as Porky, Medium and Teeny.
Cheers from the Pacific Northwest USA

  9. Are you sure that Teeney is getting food? I never seem to see him being fed, only the other two. I am worried for him.

  10. WOW Tracy and Allan..you missed a LOT after you went to bed. Middle child went on an excursion to the top of the post! And there was another owl (NOT PPO or Pappa) in the near vacinity...they had a calling contest. The other owl varied its call from 3 to 4-5 hoots. I am going to try to find out what kind of owl it may have been

  11. @Kathy1955-Teeny seems to be alert & active-plus I just saw him help himself to a bit of nestovers in the bottom of the planter. I think he'll catch up eventually.

  12. Teeny got the first meal brought in this evening and has had several other meals. One of the others spent quite a while eating a snake earlier.

  13. Hi Tracy, When I looked in on them at 5:30pm your time I noticed all three owletes to be very restless and were scratching and scratching themselves constantly. Do you think they have mites again or is it common for them to do that?

  18. Thnx Fleur, for the wonderful clips you make. I hope you don't mind, I posted a link for one (the first concert) at the Dutch OWN site. Some followers of the Dutch Bubo bubo visit that site and I know they will be as grateful as I am for the chance of listening to this wonderful concert in the South African Night.
