PPO Fans

We will have a FINAL GOODBYE for the 2011 PPO season this Sunday at 6pm Central Africam Time (11am EAST / 8am WEST). We will be broadcasting live from the balcony. If you have any questions / comments, please email them to me on enquiries@potplantowl.co.za, or leave a comment after this blog post.

One of our PPO fans started a PPO Fans map. Please will you reply below with your first name (and last if you want to) and which city and country you live in the world. There is a wonderful Google Map done by Bob on where PPO fans around the world are located. We don't have any in South Africa which I just know is not correct. So please reply to my post and we will add your name to the Google Map. This will eventually be posted for all to see. Please do this asap so we can finalise map.

Tracy and Allan...thank you so much for taking such good care of the owls! It's been such a pleasure (and tons of good laughs) watching and chatting with you and everyone else in chat. I feel like they (and you) have become part of my extended family! I'm hopeful that PPO & Pappa will return to your pot plant for her next clutch!!! I'll be there to watch again!

  18. Tracy tried to send you an e-mail, but would not go. Here is my question:
Tracy Didn’t it seem like the owls were out and about more last year than this year. It seemed that you were always reporting that they were on someone’s roof top or in a back yard somewhere.I remember seeing them in neighbors yard by the lonely table. Is it because Teeny was so much slower to take off and they were waiting for her? Thanks Doris

  24. I have added everyone above to the map. Tracy, we do have 16 people on map in SA but most of them are in or around Johannesburg, so it only looks like one dot until you zoom in the map to show just Johannesburg. Here is the link to the map:

    http://www.google.com/fusiontables/DataSource?snapid=S326178eC89

The map allows you to zoom in and out for greater or less detail. You can also click on the dots when zoomed in to see who is located there. You can also toggle back and forth between the map and a list of people by clicking on the "visualize" tab at top of page and then selecting either "map" or "table." In the table you can also sort the list by name or location by clicking on the "text" or "location" tab. have fun with it. If anyone wants to be added to the map, let me know.

I think I am one of those humans that isn't ready to say goodbye to Timka and Merlin .... watching PPO and Pappa raise their little owlets brings such joy to all of us. We truly have ODD ... 'Owl Obsessive Disorder'.

It is too short and I have been surprised than PPO family left so soon but it must be because there were two chicks when they were 3 last year.

I would like for next year a second cam so we could switch to see the chicks on the pillar in close-up.

Thank you for these sounds and sights of Joburg.
I miss languorous PPO's hoots, louding ibis hadedah and this cape turtle dove who sings so well. Happily in two seasons PPO hasn't yet eaten her.
