I've been asked to please put the link for the Save-the-Wetland petition up again, so here it is:

Thanks for all the support we've been receiving!

Thank you Tracey. I have so many emails I lost the petition one that I had sent to myself. Then I found it. However, I would love to know what it would take for them to STOP all destruction there? Is it possible that just the petition would halt this activity? Is there anything else we can do to help?

Hi Lori
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your concern. I don't think the petition will halt the process, but I do think public pressure / outcry / media involvement might.
Right now, we are asking for everyone to ask as many people as possible to sign the petition and forward it. This will go to the head of the Government Dept that is making the final decision.
Then we are asking for people to bring the story of the owls and 'their' wetland loss to the media - both here in South Africa and abroad. Even a small local newspaper somewhere may spark more interest, create more awareness, get more signatures, and put pressure on our government to do something.
The media in SA have been fantastic with feel-good stories about the owls. Now we need them, and overseas media / internet based publications to take the wetland plight and run with it.
We have lots of pictures and information we can provide to any media houses.
That's how people can help now.
Kind regards
