PM Tues 23 Nov

We were sitting outside on the patio with a friend of ours, when all of a sudden, we heard that familiar hiss. Within seconds, one chick flew from a rooftop to the wall in front of us, and then another smaller chick - Teeny.

A storm was brewing, and the wind strength picked up. Still, we all sat outside - determined to make the most of this opportunity to see how our owl family was coping.

Coping is not the word I'd use to describe them now - thriving is more like it. Teeny now flies from grass to wall back down to the ground again, as if it were hopping to and from Teeny's Owl Box. We watched Teeny fly into our garden and walk along the grass. I can't begin to tell you how funny that looks! Jeli wasted no time in finding tasty king crickets in the neighbour's garden, and eating those. Jelani's flying skills are superb, but I do believe the 'Ace Pilot', is our Indie.

Pappa hooted and flew in to where Pot Plant Owl was standing on the roof. They exchanged a big rat, and PPO flew down to feed one of the chicks. I caught movement out of the corner of one eye, and was lucky enough to see Indie whizzing past, swooping down and then changing direction and flying left and up.

For a few minutes, we were lucky enough to see all 5 family members. What a thrill! Then one by one, our owl family left us again. Their departure this time, left me with a feeling of complete peacefulness.

  2. It must have been wonderful to see them all together, flying up and down and all over the place in your yard. Maybe it's fanciful thinking this, but perhaps the family came to visit you:-)
I can see just Teeny walking along the grass with that special gait. Tracy, many thanks for these updates, you do indeed show it us through your written words, LandofAnne.

  3. What a thrill to have experienced this latest visit! I could imagine it perfectly, so vividly painted by your wonderful words. How I wish I had been sitting on your patio, watching Teeny doing his Teenster walk on the grass, Jelani hunting the crickets, and Indie swooping by! I do hope Teeny got some of that rat. :-) Thank you so much for the update!
    Hugs,

  4. Oh my goodness. Like Lori said, I can just imagine what you saw today. I am so pleased they are all doing so well. Thank you Tracy for your fantastic writings. I have ordered a black hoodie which I am getting the picture of Teeny at twilight on. I am hoping it arrives before the weekend as it is getting very cold here and I want to show it off to people.

  5. I just discovered the chat room has been closed. Does anyone want a new real time chat room for owl chat? Of course we will all still be coming here to read the blog and make our own comments too.

  6. What a delight to check your blog and read the news about your seeing the PPO family again!! Your description was a joy to read, and I'm so happy to hear that all is well with "our" owls!! Thank you for the update; I feel the peacefulness as well. Tomorrow (Thursday) is Thanksgiving Day in the U.S., and one of the things I'm sincerely grateful for is people like you, Tracy and Allan, as well as people I have gotten to know a bit through our owlthusiasm! All the best! Donna

  7. Tracy, what a treat to read your latest post. You must have enjoyed it such a great deal to see them all together and know that they are all well and thriving. Thanks for updating us - I think we all miss them. When you have time, do keep us up to date on their latest developments.
I just shared some of Teeny's adventures and exploits with an elderly friend of mine, and now she's "hooked" and wants to explore the blog. She also thinks "The Adventures of Teeny" would make a great children's book, a bit like "The Little Engine that Could" - Teeny is unstoppable. Thanks so much for sharing your sightings.

  8. Thank you for sharing. It is wonderful to hear that you saw the whole family. It is a reason to be thankful, and in the US, Thursday is Thanksgiving, and I am thankful that I saw this family grow. Thank you both.

  9. Thanks for the update, I have missed the owls and the cam soooo much! Its funny , Teeny's hissing reminds me my youngest brother(the baby). No matter what, he still wants someone to do everything for him :).
Thanks ever so much to you both for your love, patience, and caring. I hope and pray we will have the opportunity to watch this "mystery of life" unfold next year.

  13. Reading this blog is a delight, as was watching PPO, Pappa, and their most recent brood. Thank you Tracy and Allan for your generosity, providing us views and insights that we might not otherwise have experienced. I will check in often to follow developments. I hope that there will be a fourth nesting next year and that you choose to stream it for the world, too. ElfOwl49
